The Boeing 737-800 made its local flight of routine when a passenger heard a noise similar to the one of her cell phone and realized that smoke came out from the bag that was placed near her feet. The cell phone belonged to the Delhi resident, Arpita Dhal, and was stored in her purse under the seat. After 15 minutes of flying, she noticed smoke coming out of the bag and called the crew for help, according to Hindustantimes. “It was panic in the air. We pray to God,” said Atul, Arpita’s husband who was with her and added that the fire extinguishers on board did not work. The passenger said the cell phone was a Samsung Galaxy J7 and it caught fire when it was inside her purse, this Friday. At that moment the crew members were serving sandwiches to the passengers as the cabin began to fill with smoke, and the passengers began to panic. Apparently, the fire of the cell was suppressed pouring water. “I will complain about Jet Airways after I return home. This is a safety issue for passengers on flights. If there is a large fire or explosion, what will they do when their fire extinguishers do not work?”. A Jet Airways spokesman confirmed the incident, but said it was resolved “according to the procedures”. Dhal’s husband, Atul, said the crew had to put the phone on a water tray to put out the fire. After this unexpected incident, the plane continued its journey for landing in Indore. We know that cell phones that catch fire are a real nightmare for everyone, which is why the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is already banned in air travel, but now another model has created the same fear.
